There are a couple Cons: There is no mention of what the Mode switch does and I haven't been able to figure it out. The unit does charge a client device while charging itself, but once charging power is removed, the device resets the output, so couldn't be used as a battery backup.

The interesting thing is that there are also through holes so you can add a simple USB or power cable to it.

It's good for practicing smd soldering and when finished and up and running makes a nice fun little spectrum analyser display. I made up 2 of these kits for a stereo display and mounted them behind some perspex. I also moved the LED colours around to make a more conventional green-blue-yellow-red display for each vertical strip.

By Lindsey Lewis Rating: [4 of 5 Stars!]Amp works well, but has narrow mains band. I am in USA and mains where I live are 122 VAC. Toroid expects 110 vac but gets 122 and outputs 22 vac. So rectifier then puts out 27 VDC.
Blew 2200 uF 25VDC caps right off.
Then I installed 4x 2200uF 50 VDC rated Low ESR caps instead. Put on underneath side of circuit board to make them fit. Then I installed a 62 ohm 5 watt resistor.
Heat sink then runs pretty consistent at 69 or 70 degrees C. Probably needs slow fan or bigger heat sink.
